Who are we?
The “Rusty” Vehicle Sharing Group is a car sharing cooperative founded in 1976. We are a group of like-minded local people, working together on an entirely voluntary basis: we have no paid staff and no premises.
Why should I join?
Being a member of a car share enables you to have access to a vehicle when you need it, without needing to own a car. Members quickly find that they only use a vehicle when they really need it, so it’s a great way of reducing your car usage, saving money and reducing your environmental impact.
Interested in forming a new car club?
If you are thinking of getting together with friends and relatives to form a new group, Rusty can offer help and advice. Just get in touch.
What kind of vehicles?
All our vehicles are at least 5 years old. We have 3 cars and a transit van based in different locations in Leicester.
How does it work?
Each vehicle is based with a member of the car pool – the ‘keeper’ of the vehicle. Bookings are made through a Bookings Co-ordinator. We average 5 adults per vehicle, so a good mix of requirements and good co-ordination means that vehicles are available as and when people need them.
How much does it cost?
Members pay a £5 monthly subscription plus a mileage rate. These fees pay for everything – insurance, road tax, petrol, repairs, breakdown cover, and replacement vehicles. Current rates are available on request.
